About the Reina Sofia School of Music

The Reina Sofía School of Music mission is to contribute to the development of talented young musicians and to bring music closer to society. Founded 25 years ago, it is considered one of the world's leading music schools.

Its 150 students from over 30 different countries are exclusively selected on a merit basis, receiving a personalized education from the best specialists worldwide, and strengthening their training by performing more than 300 public concerts organized by the School each year in the most prestigious music halls. The scholarship program ensures that, regardless of his/her financial means and personal circumstances, any student talented enough to be accepted in the School has the opportunity to receive this top education.

Her Majesty Queen Sofía is the Honorary President of the School, whose Board gathers public and private institutions under a shared goal of serving the youth and musical culture. The alumni network –currently over 700 musicians–, are spread all over the world and almost all of them are living creative and successful lives. Indeed, many of them have contributed to the increase in the level of musical performance experienced over the recent years in Spain.

The School is the main programme of the Albéniz Foundation, a non-profit institution created in 1972 by its President Paloma O'Shea.
