Join the CBS Alumni Club of Spain and current Columbia Business School MBAs for a discussion on Spain’s tax reform and its benefits to help end the fiscal crisis. Hosted by leading Spanish economist J. Ignacio Conde-Ruiz, the discussion will focus on the necessity for an urgent tax reform to come out of the current economic and fiscal crisis, and the Spanish tax system will be put into perspective with those of similar developed economies. Mr. Conde-Ruiz will also present a specific tax reform proposal generated by his team at FEDEA. The presentation will be conducted entirely in English.

The event will take place in the context of the 2014 Chazen Study Tour to Spain (March15 to 22, 2014). Twenty-four international MBAs and Columbia Business School Professor Mauricio Larrain will spend the week visiting and meeting with key executives at Spain’s leading private sector companies, including Telefónica, Inditex, EADS and Banco Santander, among others. 

Speaker:

  J. IGNACIO CONDE-RUIZ, Economist, FEDEA Member and Professor at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid @conderuiz

Ph.D. (Economics) from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (with Honors), Professor at Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and Deputy Director at Fundación de Estudios de Economía Aplicada (FEDEA) . He has worked in the Prime Minister´s Economic Bureau as a General Director for Economic Policy (2008-2010). He has also worked as an External Consultant at the World Bank. He has been a member of the expert group appointed by the Ministry of Labor to design the Pension Sustainability Factor. He has participated in research projects at the European University Institute (Florence), at the Bocconi University (Milan) and at the University Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona). His research interests are Political Economy, Public Economics (labor market institutions and pensions) and Macroeconomics. He has also participated in numerous research projects, seminars and conferences. He has also published scientific articles in academic journals of international standing as Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Economic European Association, Journal of Public Economics, Economic Theory, The Economic Journal and Review of Economic Dynamics - See attached CV.

This is a free event.

Please note: Prior registration is required to attend the event. Registration deadline is Thursday March 13. Space is limited so registration will be on a first come, first serve basis.  Please enter the complex between 19:30 and 19:50 through the Gran Vía - Fuencarral door (at the corner of Gran Vía and Fuencarral) as this entrance has been specially reserved for our event. Upon arrival, please present your ID - your business card will also be appreciated - to the hostess who will complete your registration and provide you with your name tag. You will be led toward the conference area which is located on the second level of the store. Please be seated by 8:00 PM as the conference will begin on schedule!

About Columbia Business School’s Chazen Study Tours: 

Designed to enhance the classroom curriculum, Study Tours offer students and their faculty adviser an intense, firsthand experience of the business culture of their chosen country or region. During the 7 to 10 day trips, students meet with leading executives and government officials while visiting businesses, factories and cultural sites.
